Scratching inside the wall at night

Connect the Rat Vac directly to an accessible wall opening, like a gap at the baseboard or where pipes go into the wall. Mice in the wall come to the bait and get pulled out.

It needs a wet/dry shop vac and an outlet.

UV Tracking Powder for finding where mice leave the wall

You can't find where they come out

Dust UV powder along the base of the wall and check it with a UV light the next night. The tracks lead to the gap.

Seal first, then pull them out

Mice in a wall always have a way in from outside and a way out to food.

  • Seal the gaps on the outside walls first, so no new mice get in.
  • Leave the inside openings open, so mice in the wall come out to the Rat Vac or a trap.
  • No poison. A poisoned mouse dies in the wall, where you can't reach it.
  • Close the inside openings after a week with no catches.

Twin Tip: with the power off at the breaker, take the cover off an outlet on the noisy wall and sniff. A strong odor means they're busy in there.

Where to set a mouse trap for walls

Where to set a mouse trap for walls: inside the sink cabinet, behind the fridge, at a baseboard gap, beside the washing machine 1234
  1. Inside the sink cabinet, where the pipes go into the wall.
  2. Behind the fridge. Slide it out carefully.
  3. At a gap under the baseboard.
  4. Beside the washer, where the hoses go into the wall.

Connect the Rat Vac to the busiest opening. Set snap traps with the bait end touching the wall, and check them every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Seal the way in first. Then connect the Rat Vac to an accessible wall opening, or set snap traps at the gaps where they come out, with the bait end against the wall.

Scratching or quick running inside the wall at night, droppings like grains of rice along the baseboard or under the sink, and small gaps with dark smudges around them.

From somewhere else in the house: gaps around pipes, wires and gas lines, the attic, the crawl space or the garage. A gap about a quarter inch wide is enough.

Seal the outside first. Then connect the Rat Vac to the opening they use: it catches up to 60 mice without resetting or rebaiting. For one or two mice, snap traps at the exits work.

As long as they have a way in and food close by. The noise may stop for a while, but mice keep using the same gap until it's closed.

We find how they get in, sometimes with a smoke test of the pipes, and seal it. Then we connect the Rat Vac to a wall opening or trap at the exits. We only open a wall when nothing else turns up the way in.
