Product Details

A single half-inch gap is enough for a mouse, and rats can squeeze through anything they can fit their skull into. After more than 3,000 rodent jobs across five states, Jim and Dave Schuelke kept seeing the same pattern: traps cleared the active population, but new rodents kept arriving through the same unsealed gaps. This rodent proof wire mesh roll is the material the twins use to close those gaps for good.

Standard hardware-store mesh fails for two reasons. The wire gauge is too thin, so rats chew through it within weeks. And the galvanized coating corrodes once moisture hits it, leaving rust holes that rodents widen back into entry points. The Stainless Steel Wire Mesh from Rodent Free is welded from corrosion-resistant stainless steel that holds up indoors, outdoors, and in damp crawlspaces. It is the same wire mesh for rodent control that the twins install on their own paid jobs.

Use this rodent exclusion mesh to seal gaps around pipe penetrations, foundation cracks, soffit joins, garage door rails, weep holes, attic vents, and any other entry route a visual inspection turns up. Cut it to size with tin snips, press it into the opening, and secure it with the appropriate fastener for the surface. For a complete exclusion build, pair it with RatCapz roof vent caps, the No-Dig Rat Drain Blocker, and the rest of the rodent prevention range.

How to Use

Used correctly, this is a one-time install that lasts as long as the structure does.

Installation Steps:

  • Identify the entry point. Use UV tracking powder or smoke testing to confirm an active route before you seal it. Sealing the wrong gap leaves the real entry point open.
  • Measure and cut. Use tin snips or aviation shears to cut the mesh roughly an inch larger than the opening on every side. Wear gloves; cut edges are sharp.
  • Press into the gap. Fold the edges in and push the mesh into the opening so the wire bites against the surrounding material. For larger gaps, layer two pieces at right angles.
  • Secure the edges. Use construction adhesive, expanding foam over the top, masonry screws and washers, or stainless-steel staples, depending on the surface. Avoid silicone caulk alone; rats will chew through caulk to reach mesh edges.
  • Verify the seal from inside if possible. Shine a light through the gap from the outside and watch for any light leakage on the interior side. Any visible gap is still an entry point.

Start exclusion work from the ground up and work your way to the roofline. Sealing high entry points first can trap rodents inside and force them to chew new exit holes.
